What to look for when choosing a camera?

Before we get into the actual review of Ezviz cameras, we'll look at the most important features when choosing a camera for your home.

Lens field

One of the most important parameters when choosing an IP camera is undoubtedly the lens field. This is the primary thing to determine the number of cameras we require and their mounting location.

Matrix

Another important parameter is the matrix. It takes the image from the lens and converts it into a digital stream. How does it work? The quality of the image displayed by the camera depends on the sensitivity of the sensor. Sensitivity is indicated in lux (lx). Lux itself is the derivative of one lumen (meter of light flux) per square meter. This parameter shows the minimum amount of light needed to form an image (0.1 ~ 0.9 lux, 0.01 ~ 0.009 lux). In summary, the more zeros you get after the decimal point, the more sensitive the sensor and the image quality of the device.

Aperture

Aperture is the relative aperture that allows light to pass through it. The smaller the value, the more light will enter the sensor. The aperture of a lens with an F/1.2 aperture is larger than that of an F/2.0 aperture - in this example, an F/1.2 aperture will let more light into the sensor.

Resolution

Today, unjustified high resolution is fashionable, but it is often not cost-effective. Higher resolution contributes not only to higher costs of the device, but also to higher bandwidth required for the network, computing power of the DVR or a larger external hard drive with memory. In addition, the higher resolution of the image, the lower sensitivity of the sensor. If we have more pixels in the image, the less light will fall on the camera - all this affects the quality of the received image. When choosing the resolution you should think about what tasks you will use the camera for. If you do not need a detailed image when zooming, a camera with 2 megapixels will be sufficient for most tasks. A higher resolution is worth considering in the case of:
  • Large open spaces, halls, stadiums, train stations, airports.
  • In the case of the need for clear distinction of details, e.g. license plates.
  • IP degree of protection

When choosing a camera for outdoor operation it is important to pay attention not only to the operating temperature of the device, but also to the protection against external factors. The sealing standards are divided into IP degrees of protection:
  • IP54 - From moisture and dust, protection from splashes of water from any direction is also provided.
  • IP66 - The unit is dust-tight with protection against pressure jets.
  • IP67 - The unit can be submerged in water up to a depth of 1 meter.
  • IP68
  • - The device will operate when submerged below 1 meter for up to 30 minutes.

    Ezviz C3WN Camera

Alright, with the basics covered we can finally move on to the actual review of Ezviz brand cameras. We will start our review with the Ezviz C3WNcamera .

The main feature of this camera is its small size with two protruding Wi-Fi antennas. The device has been specially adapted for mounting with a ball joint, which greatly facilitates installation. The back of the device can be divided into power supply socket and Ethernet connector. The Ethernet port allows to connect the camera via wired network. EZVIZ C3W has IP66 rating, which significantly protects the device from dust penetration and high-pressure water jets from any direction. The camera operates at temperatures from -22 degrees to 60 degrees.

The camera has a viewing angle of 110 in diagonal and records video in 1080P resolution. The device additionally has a built-in noise-canceling microphone that provides clear audio up to 16 meters. Two infrared LEDs guarantee clear images up to 10 meters of active night vision.

As with most Ezviz cameras - the C3WN comes with multiple storage options. The camera allows you to save video clips to a MicroSD card (up to 256GB, not included) or using an Ezviz NVR device - this is a network video recorder sold separately. The manufacturer also allows us to store our videos in the cloud with an Ezviz CloudPlay subscription.

As with the Ezviz C3WN model, we can also connect our camera to a router. During installation, we follow the same steps as in the case of the mobile application. We add the device, scan the QR code and log on to the application. The manufacturer additionally suggests that if the mobile device through which we configure the camera operates in 2.4GHz frequency and we have the possibility of connecting to a 5GHz network, we should disable this network on the router. This is to avoid complications in the process of configuring the device.

The reset button pressed and held for about 5 seconds will restore the device to factory settings and allow to choose another WI-FI network. The manufacturer also recommends changing the password to the camera, which by default is the verification code located on the bottom of the device. This password is also used to encrypt the image. So if you enable image encryption, to view live video or play back recordings from the camera you will need to enter the password.

In the installation process, we will encounter a tab about the free period of Ezviz CloudPlay.

If we remember the QR code, the system will automatically redirect us to the possibility of first free and then paid use of the Ezviz cloud. Unfortunately, the free period is imposed automatically and you cannot cancel it in any way. The resignation of this option itself can be approved by removing the device from the Ezviz application.
