Single-mode patchcord with a length of 100meters, cable diameter of 3mm, terminated with SC/APC-SC/PC connectors is used to connect optical network equipment, such as switches or converters. G.657A fiber contains increased mechanical resistance: the minimum bending radius of this fiber is 10mm. Patchcords are also widely used in FTTH networks to connect OLT and ONU/ONT devices.

Single-mode - transmitting only one mod of light. They allow signal transmission over very long distances without the risk of signal attenuation or distortion.
Multimode - carrying multiple light mods simultaneously. They allow to transmit a signal over a much shorter distance, and when used over long distances can cause the appearance of signal interference.
Simplex - a connection in which transmission takes place unilaterally from transmitter to receiver. Used in simplex radio networks to exchange information on a single channel without the need for retransmission stations.
Duplex, also bidirectional transmission - a connection in which it is possible to transmit and receive information in both directions. The transmitter and receiver can swap functions or perform these functions simultaneously.
