Power over Ethernet (PoE) is a network function defined by the IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at standards. PoE allows Ethernet cables to provide power to network devices within existing data transmission.
An improved version of PoE technology is that PSE devices within PoE+ can provide twice as much power over a single Ethernet cable.
PoE and PoE+-powered devices are assigned classes 0 to 4 depending on power requirements. Devices 0 to 3 have very low power consumption but already class 4 will require PoE+.
