Configuration and overview of Cisco Meraki Go GX20

Today we will look at the Cisco Meraki Go GX20 router, it is a complete network solution based on a "do it yourself" type cloud. Meragi Go is a simplification of wireless network for small businesses. The device combines access points, security gateways and network switches into a unified management system, creating a fast, secure and reliable network, which can be easily managed from the intuitive Meraki Go Mobile APP. Thanks to the application we can remotely manage critical applications and business devices without the help of an IT specialist.

For many companies in the world wireless Internet is already a must, today not only employees have access to Wi-Fi networks, but also business customers. To support this dynamic, companies must rely on their wireless network infrastructure. Cisco offers two possibilities of building WLANs to their customers, it can be deployment locally (on site) or by using the Cisco Meraki network cloud. With Meraki, the entire network can be managed from a single panel, as the device has the ability to merge WAN, LAN and WLAN management on a single page. The standard Cisco solution requires multiple management points and additional software layers to achieve the same management level. One of the most important differences between Meraki and the standard Cisco solution is that one is largely an operating cost and the other an investment.

The Router is distinguished by its design, small dimensions (173.4 mm x 112 mm x 26.3 mm, excluding mounting feet or mounting plate) and weight. We have a shortened service manual included in the set, it must be emphasized that it is shortened, as the manufacturer refers us to his website for full documentation. Inside you will also find a wall mount kit, power supply and Ethernet cable.

The first start-up process takes a very long time and the LEDs on the device are flashing in different colors, but let's move on to the installation itself. The router uses the Cisco Meraki go APP, which is compatible with iOS and Android. The configuration of the device itself is very simple and intuitive, the manufacturer focused on ensuring that the installation does not require help from an IT specialist.

The web interface with the basic configuration of the router is available at my.meraki.com (you must be on the router's internal network) or connect to the IP address of the gateway offered by the router using a browser. The interface itself has been simplified to a minimum and is limited to basic data only.

You have to admit that Meraki Go GX20 can really simplify our Wi-Fi network. By using the cloud, we can browse and solve problems remotely with one application. Moreover, the interface is so intuitive that we can do everything ourselves without the help of a qualified IT specialist - a very convenient solution for small businesses. There is only one thing but... The disadvantage of this solution is the need to have access to the Internet to configure anything, the smartphone application connects to the Internet (I did not see it connecting via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth). Moreover, if we have a network without dynamic assignment of network configuration, we need to have a laptop with an Ethernet card to connect to the device using the browser.

According to the manufacturer, one of the advantages of using this router is the high level of security it provides to its users (supported by Cisco Umbrella). Unfortunately, to access these features you need to have a subscription ("Security Subcription key"). The price of annual subscription is as much as 599 PLN, and for 3 years it is over 1300 PLN. (cheapest offers). In the basic package there is only a possibility to block a given Internet address.

Summing up - we get a simple router for over 600 PLN to which we can add a security package for over 550 PLN.
