Fast LTE internet in a few steps

Fast LTE internet in a few steps

The coronavirus has made a huge mess in every trend of our economy. Many of us have been forced to work remotely at home to protect ourselves from COVID-19. And in the era of such high demand for the Internet, access to high-speed connections is invaluable. Of course, not only do we need high-speed internet for work, but also for online classes. However, not everyone has access to an optical fiber or other efficient connection from their ISP.
LTE service comes to the rescue!

However, the use of the LTE service is repeatedly limited by the wrong location of our LTE receiver and the place where we are (distant village, forest, mountains, etc.). As a result, we do not have sufficient coverage, and thus, we do not have sufficient bandwidth to use the Internet resources smoothly. Not to mention services such as Skype, Netflix or video conferencing ... For all those who need fast LTE Internet (in virtually any location), we have prepared sets of devices and a short guide on how to quickly and efficiently configure a WiFi network at home and in the company. Of course, our main source of Internet is LTE.

LTE Internet reception set

We at batna24 have prepared a complete set that allows you to receive LTE service and use a wireless Wi-Fi network:

With the help of these devices, we will build our efficient, wireless WiFi network cheaply and efficiently. Using LTE as the main source of the Internet.

LTE transmitters

Before installing and configuring the devices, check where the cellular base transceiver stations (BTS) are located. Only with this knowledge can you mount the LTE antenna aiming at a specific BTS. If you do not know exactly where the nearest BTS is located, you can use the map of cellular transmitters, e.g. BTSeach.

LTE configuration - step by step

Configuration of our devices for receiving LTE Internet is very easy. We will present a diagram of the configuration of individual devices in just a few steps below. Before we start the configuration, we must equip ourselves with Winbox software, thanks to which we will configure our MikroTik.

  • We log in to Mikrotik using the Winbox tool

Login: admin Password: leave blank (when logging in for the first time). We leave the default configuration by clicking "Ok" on the first board we will see.

  • Then we need to enter the PIN code of our SIM card (of course, provided it is required ). If we do not have a PIN code on the SIM card, we skip this point .

(1) Click on the Interfaces tab, then on our interface (2) lte1 , in the General (3) tab enter our PIN code and finally confirm the configuration (4) Apply . If everything is correctly entered and the antenna is correctly aimed at the LTE relay , then next to the lte1 interface name should appear the letter (5) "R" (Running). This tells us that the LTE antenna is correctly connected to the BTS relay.

  • The next step is to secure our MikroTik. First of all, we must set the access password because by default the device has no password.

(1) enter the System tab -> select (2) Password -> enter the new access password (3) New Password and confirm Confirm Password . At the very end click (4) Change.

Wireless network configuration

MikroTik is ready, so now we are configuring our local wireless network based on the Totolink N300RT router.

  • Using the patch cord (included) we connect (PC / laptop) to the LAN port of our router. After successfully starting the router, we will be automatically taken to the login page . We will have to set a new access password there .

After logging in, we need to choose the appropriate router mode (in our case it will be a typical Access Point ) and configure our local wireless WiFi network .

We change the router's operating mode to (1) AP mode , (2) enter the name of our Wi-Fi network (SSID), (3) set the password to access the wireless network (WPA2). Finally, we confirm the configuration (4) Apply .

Configuration summary

AND READY !!! Now you only need to connect Patchcord LAN (or PoE Injector ) from our MikroTik to any LAN port in our Totolink 300rt and we can enjoy fast LTE Internet .
